The Girldad Sports Movement
aka #girldadsagainstthepatriarchy

Brother girldads, sister girlmoms, girlparents and allies of all roles and gender identities… it is an honor to present to you girldad sports, a guide to women’s sports that is specifically designed to support your casual fandom for the sake of inspiring and engaging the girls and young women whose dreams and passions you, as an adult who loves them, are responsible for safekeeping.

In 2020, my second daughter was born, and I stopped watching men’s sports in the hopes that my girls would grow up in a world where their sports idols look like them. I wanted the notion of female athlete to be normalized for my girls the same way that we want the notion of female doctor, firefighter, politician, scientist, or engineer to be normalized for girls in our society. And I feel blessed that my girls are growing up in a time when the growth of women’s sports is palpable—where the 20,000+ strong singing and chanting around them at every sold out ACFC soccer match feels expected. We’ve come a long way from those days when I used to drag friends out to Rutgers to sit on the bleachers with a few hundred other fans and watch my first favorite soccer player, Tasha Kai, score goals for Sky Blue FC.

But we still have a long way to go. And that’s what this website and community are for.

By subscribing to Girldad Sports, you are joining a community. You are demonstrating the strength of the market for casual women’s sports fans and advancing the rationale for greater investment and growth of not just professional women’s sports, but also the collegiate and youth sports pipelines.

I’m grateful for the tons of women’s sports content out there being generated by some of the most passionate and talented journalists, analysts, and superfans of specific women’s sports. We read and listen to these folks going deep in their passion niches so you don’t have to. Girldad Sports exists to help you go a mile wide and dive deep only where you (and your loved ones) want to. We are here to help you explore and to help you and your daughter(s) spark a passion for the compelling athletes, leagues, and sports that we love and we know you’ll love too! We are fans; not journalists. We are parents; not analysts. So we’ll be strictly positive… and I promise we’ll also be brief.

No hot-takes. No hate. Just hype.

Our weekly "5 Things” newsletter is now a weekly podcast that will drop every Tuesday, pointing you to the events that you’ll want to tune into for the upcoming week. And several times a year, we’ll publish more in-depth guides to prep you for big events (like the World Cup, the Olympics, or seasons, playoffs, and tournaments in college or professional sports).

You can also check our Women's Sports Calendar to stay up to date on games, matches, tournaments and meets you won’t want to miss.

We've also added some merch so you can help spread the message of women's sports fandom everywhere you go!

We got you, brother girldads and sister girlmoms! It’s an honor to be out here cheering and chanting alongside you. So please spread the love and share this website with those who you think might also appreciate it. And in the meantime, since we are all truly out here for the sake of our kids…

Remember to thank a coach, be kind to a ref, and celebrate your daughter(s) whether they win or lose.

Peace and Passion.
